Okay, so I’m silly and have this analogy about how I think photography is like baking a cake! Yes, you heard me, bear with me for a minute...
When first getting ready to bake a cake you need to get all of the ingredients. When getting ready to do a session I also have to gather all of my ingredients, my props! My backgrounds, props, layering pieces, wraps, outfits, headbands, stuffies etc. So next would be to mix all of the ingredients together to make the cake batter. Arranging all of the props I just gathered into a beautiful masterpiece is like mixing the batter. There is a lot of thought that goes into each set-up I do.
Baking the cake in the oven equates to the session. It’s hot in the studio LOL (referring to newborn sessions) and at the session is when your images are created. Pull that cake out of the oven, now you have a cake, naked and not so beautiful. Similar to when I look at my RAW images for the first time. A RAW image is dull and nothing fancy, it has zero adjustments made to it. Unlike, most point and shoot and phone cameras which apply adjustments to help make your images pop. Not to mention you need special software to open raw images. This is why I will never give RAW files.
The next step is to frost and decorate your cake. Just like a baker has special skills and tools to meticulously decorate your cake; I have special skills and tools that I use to edit/retouch your images. During the editing process is when your images come to life. I take my time to sort through your images and select the best ones. Then I meticulously go over every inch of each image. Removing baby acne, flakey skin, fixing red splotches, or jaundice. I don’t just click a button and apply a preset, nope, your images are created with my vision and style. Whew!
Okay, so your cake is done and you see it all put together for the first time, wow! Just gorgeous! When you come for your reveal and ordering appointment you will see your images for the first time. This is my favorite part, after all of the hours creating these images for you I finally get to see your first reaction! It’s emotional for everyone and is the best feeling!
So, your cake is ready, better just put it in the fridge and forget about it, right? No! You wouldn’t do that! So why would you just leave your images on your computer? You’ve got your cake and you want to eat it too!! Eating your cake is like printing your pictures. Mmm, so good, holding your art in your hands is the best feeling, and walking past your art on your walls every day can’t be beat!
So, would you like to bake a cake with me?
